This afternoon, a rare and sunny treat, and almost warm in (usually) wild, wet, windy, wonderful west Wales brought with it a chance to take an image I have long waited to capture. I had to pass through the nave of St David's Cathedral mid afternoon. Thankfully, I had my camera.
Work is being done inside, and the great west door was, by chance, open on this sunny day to facilitate the delivery of building materials to the work site near the High Altar. A few moments either way and the opportunity would have been missed, passed by as an ordinary afternoon in this magnificent building (not that any afternoon is ordinary in such an ancient and beautiful place of worship). But I was there at the right moment in time and space . . and I had my camera! Instead of walking straight across the back of the Nave, I chanced to glance up at the Rood Screen, and there was the sun shining across the carved Irish oak ceiling and the large crucifix that hangs above the Nave. There is a correct architectural term for this feature, but I do not know it.
I could search a dictionary for the right words and never find them. Simple majesty in the glory of God's gift of the brilliant autumn sunshine blazed off a hand carved image of His Only Son.
Here, Gentle Reader, are three of the images I captured. I am immensely happy with them. I will say no more. They speak for themselves . . .

I'm so pleased I found your blog!
What a beautiful cathedral. Stunning photos of the carved oak ceiling. Magnificent architecture!
I also see you like Arthur Rackham as well. He was a great illustrator.
Best wishes,
Jo May.

Just to say, I do plan a full blog on this wonderful building, I have much ancenstral connection with it and am desperate to share.
Grand, majestic indeed. Thank you!
:)
I hate the word "awesome" as it is so overused now - but those pictures are AWESOME!!! And Awe-inspiring!!! Breathtaking and beautiful!!
Betsy, Andressa, and Darlene . . thank you!
Yes, Darlene, I agree, it is overused, and it was totally and completely awesome, in the true meaning of the word to see this as it was happening. There are times when the camera just cannot do justice.
What beautiful pictures you have taken. You were in the right place and the right time as God wanted you to be there. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures with us.
A new reader of your blog, Julie H from Michigan

when I view these incredibly beautiful images, I am overcome with a sense of peace and I am not sure how exactly to put in words right at this moment, perhaps that is what awe-inspiring is as another follower said above. I am very much looking forward to seeing the full blog about this sacred, beautiful and very special building. with love, Kimberly xoxo
Thank you Julie, Karen, and Kimberly for your comments. Indeed I was in the right place at the right time.
